Butwhatifyoudon'thaveprintfandyoudon'twanttocallawk?Thenusethetrcommand:

echon()
{
echo"$*"|tr-d'\n'
}

Thismethodofsimplychoppingoutthecarriagereturnwithtrisasimpleandefficientsolutionthatshouldbequiteportable.
